I have a strong interest in providing equitable access to technological resources and utilizing technology in my classroom in ways that reflect that belief.
While student-teaching, I helped organize volunteer staffing to keep the school computer labs open after school, three evenings a week, and on weekends before finals for students who did not have access to computers, the internet, or certain software used in classes at the school. The school was able to provide a small stipend for a teacher to be present when the labs were open (insurance required a school employee to be present), but all support and assistance was provided by parents, community members, and other students. Additionally, I met with the principal and building manager to make sure that the labs were accessible to students with disabilities and that the labs themselves contained adaptive workstations.
